Stefen Chow – The Poverty Line

February 4, 2011

The photographer Stefen Chow recently produced an interesting project on the cost of living in China, called “The Poverty Line.”

PDN Photo of the Day provides an introduction:

Chow photographed food items that could be purchased for RMB 3.28 (49 cents), which is the daily income of those earning China‘s official poverty-level wage of RMB 1,196 per year. Chow says, This is not an emotional analysis of what it means to be poor. It is an examination of the choices one would face being poor in China.

Below, I have pasted one of his photos.  This photo is taken of steamed bread, baozi, 包子, my current breakfast staple.

See the rest of the project here.

Thanks Allyson, for pointing this out to me.
