city of chai

December 23, 2009

this post takes its name from a chapter in the concrete dragon by thomas campanella, a book that i used for my paper on bikes in china. the chapter chronicles the destruction of traditional chinese architecture and parallels this destruction with the similar phenomena in american cities. these chinese stories, campanella states, echo the death and life of chinese cities by jane jacobs, a book that i have wanted to read for a while.  this is an excerpt that i liked (p. 167).
